Intrepid walkers wanted
Through all it’s majesty and beauty, Dartmoor can still be a pretty spooky and eerie place even in daylight, so imagine hiking through it in the dark! Well now’s your chance to find out… if you’re brave enough to take on the Midnight Madness challenge!
Intrepid walkers from all over the UK are taking part in the exciting night walk across Dartmoor, and you are being invited to join them. On Saturday 19th July The Fisherman’s Mission charity will play host to it’s annual sponsored Midnight Madness night walk across the moors.
The Midnight Madness walk has become a ‘must do’ event
Now in it’s 9th year, the Midnight Madness walk has become a ‘must do’ event for individuals, friends and even groups taking part. The walk starts at 9:00pm in Princetown and heading out into the open moors including Kings Tor Track, Yennadon Down, Old Bridge, and South Hessary before heading back to Princetown for some well earned refreshments. Expecting to take approximately 4-5 hours, this unique event is supervised by the Dartmoor Search & Rescue Plymouth team.

SW Fundraising Manager Gina Moore says
This challenge is a “must do” for all those walkers looking for something just a bit different. The challenge is to trek approximately 13 -14 miles through the Dartmoor wilderness and across wild open moorland. There is a designated route to follow and maps are provided on the night. However, with possibly only the moonlight and torchlight to guide their way it could be a spooky and kind of night for our walkers!
If you’d like to get involved in this unforgettable and unique challenge then you can find out more on the Fisherman’s Mission website. Teams and individuals are all welcome but pre-booking is essential and all monies raised through this sponsorship event will help the Fishermen’s Mission charity to provide vital emergency & welfare support to fishermen and their families 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 365 days a year.
This is a fantastic event for a great cause. Are you going to take part or have you taken part in previous years? Leave a comment and tell us about your experience.
