Think of the Lake District and odds are you’ll be thinking about water, and water sports activities! Indeed the Lake District is great for water related activities – but there is so much more to do. The Lake District is the UK’s largest National Park and it’s soon going to be extended making it even bigger (3% bigger to be precise). With plenty of walking, cycling and water activities there is plenty to do, you can even climb Scaffel Pike, England’s highest Mountain and part of the National Three Peaks challenge.

3: Snowdonia

At certain times last year it seemed as though everyone was heading to Snowdonia as visitor numbers and enquiries soared. As the UK’s 3rd highest mountain, Snowdon attracts lots of visitors, especially those doing the many challenges in the National Park – with the most obvious being the Three Peaks. It’s popularity has ensured there is a vast selection of accommodation in the area.

2: Peak District

There were a lot of people searching for bunkhouses in the Peak District last year and as a result this wonderful National Park has jumped up our league table. With over 550 square miles of rolling hills, moorland and farmland to explore on foot and bike.

The Peak District should definitely be on your to-do list for 2016. Browse bunkhouse and hostel accommodation in The Peak District

1: Dartmoor

For the second year in a row Dartmoor has claimed the top spot in our National Park countdown. Although it lacks much of the stunning scenery that many National Parks offer, it more than makes up for it in other ways. Dartmoor is one of the most (if not the most) atmospheric place in our countdown. Walking across it in the fog is an experience like no other and with over 100 tors to visit, the foreboding prison, and lots of ghost stories and tales like ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ (Hound Tor is a must visit!) make it a popular destination with rookie and experienced adventurers. It’ one of our favourite places to visit and if you’ve never been we highly recommend it!
