As we all know, staying in a bunkhouse or hostel is a fantastic way to see the great outdoors, or even just have a weekend end away if you’re on a budget. Bunkhouses have been increasing in popularity over the last decade. What was once seen as something for ‘hard-core adventurers’ is now used by large number of the population including an increasing number of disabled people.
Usually located ‘off road’ and/or ‘off grid’, Bunkhouses can come with their own set of challenges for the disabled adventurer. Thankfully many bunkhouses and hostels have risen to the challenge of making their accommodation more accessible.
From wheelchair ramps and wider doorways to hands-free taps, low counter tops and ground floor beds many accommodation owners are making positive changes to their bunkhouses and hostels to make them as accessible as they can.
