Taking camping pods to the next level
Nothing beats escaping into the wilderness of a National Park and getting off grid, but for many the thought of camping is less than appealing. Traditional bunkhouses and hostels are a more comfortable solution, but are not always in a convenient locations.
A new type of accommodation is looming large on the horizon that could well give you another option for your adventure accommodation as early as 2016.
uniquely designed
The uniquely designed Ecocapsule is powered purely by solar and wind energy, and allows us adventurers to travel into the wilderness without leaving behind the luxury of a hotel room. It can be all things to all travellers , a cottage, pop-up hotel, a place out of the rain (think 21st century bothy) or even as charging station for electric cars.

The Ecocapsule is equipped with a dual power production system, bypassing periods of low energy production, it’s massive battery capacity allows it to store any surplus energy generated for usage at a later time. The spherical shape of the Ecocapsule is carefully designed and built to maximize collection of rain water and even morning dew! Membrane water filters installed in the Ecocapsule are devised to purify 99.999% of bacteria, rendering any natural water source suitable for drinking.
Energy loss is minimised by the purposely designed shape of the Ecocapsule. It’s hollow walls are filled with hi-performance thermal insulation to protect it’s dwellers from a harsh outdoor environment and helps to achieve a near passive house performance. It’s amazing low power consumption and energy recuperation systems help to reduce energy consumption and extend life span.

It’s real and it’s coming!
The Ecocapsule is highly mobile and it’s small footprint means it can be positioned almost anywhere. An additional undercarriage will turn Ecocapsule into a fully functioning caravan, making it perfect for quick transportation. We can see it used for many different applications, not just the obvious adventure accommodation, but a quickly set up base of operations for rescue teams or a centre for event orgainsers. Not just for individuals the Ecocapsule would be perfect for outdoor accommodation providers, able to offer alternative accommdation that can be moved and reconfigured to suit different times seasons, events and guests.
Designed by Slovakia-based company Nice Architects the Ecocapsule will be available to pre-order at the end of 2015, with the first production units delievered in 2016. More information can be found at the official website
We love the Ecocapsule and can’t wait to try one out.
But what do you think? Are you an accommodation provider… could you see the Ecocapsule as part of your accommodation offering? Are you an adventurer.. would you like to stay in something like this?

I think as a design it’s really neat and seems very green, but I don’t think you’ll see many of these dotted around in the actual wilderness. I’d be worried about vandalism or theft. I do however think we’d see them alongside existing accommodation areas (on campsites etc..)
